Federal Judge Orders Laura Loomer to Resume and Complete Settlement Payments to CAIR
Court rejects Loomer’s attempt to withhold payments after failed lawsuit, must pay $73,500 settlement
Far-right American political activist, conspiracy theorist and internet personality, Laura Loomer, has been ordered by a federal judge to complete settlement payments owed to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization.
The legal dispute dates back to 2019, when a federal district court dismissed both CAIR and CAIR-Florida from Loomer’s “nonsensical” lawsuit.
Judge Rodolfo A. Ruiz II ordered Loomer to pay $123,761.65 to CAIR and its Florida chapter, plus $661.72 in costs. In 2022, the U.S. Court of Appeals affirmed a $125,000 judgment for attorney’s fees and costs against Loomer and Illoominate Media, noting that after three appeals, “this matter should be at an end.”
To resolve her outstanding debt, Loomer reached a settlement with CAIR in 2023, agreeing to pay $73,500 in monthly instalments. The recent judicial ruling requires Loomer to complete these payments, closing a lengthy chapter of litigation and appeals.
The ruling comes after Loomer, in response to Governor Ron DeSantis’ proclamation labeling CAIR as a terrorist group—a move CAIR described as unconstitutional and defamatory—filed a motion seeking permission from the federal court to withhold her remaining payments.
The court rejected Loomer’s request, reaffirming the terms of the original settlement and mandating that she fulfil her financial obligations to CAIR.
In a statement, CAIR Litigation Director Lena Masri expressed satisfaction with the outcome: “We welcome this judicial ruling ordering Laura Loomer to complete her monthly payments to CAIR Legal Defense Fund and fully satisfy the attorney’s fees she owes us because of her failed lawsuit.
Since Ms Loomer began sending her payments to CAIR in 2023, our attorneys have used her funds to provide legal representation to the American Muslim community and advance free speech, religious freedom, and civil rights for everyone in our nation.
We look forward to receiving Ms. Loomer’s final payments and using the funds to once again protect American Muslims and our neighbors from hate.”
