President Trump delivers the nation’s only major political Eid message, emphasizing unity and religious liberty as celebrations close the month of Ramadan.
As Muslim communities across the United States celebrated Eid al‑Fitr, President Donald Trump issued the only nationally prominent Eid message from U.S. political leadership this weekend, offering warm wishes and emphasizing religious liberty as a core American value.
In a statement released on March 18–19, 2026, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump extended their “best wishes to every American celebrating Eid al‑Fitr,” marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The message highlighted the festival’s spirit of unity, noting that Eid “unites Muslim families, friends, and communities in honour of their spiritual devotion at the conclusion of Ramadan.”
He added that Eid serves as a reminder of this constitutional guarantee, reaffirming the right of all Americans to practice their faith freely. The message closed with the Trumps offering their “warmest greetings for a blessed Eid al‑Fitr to all who celebrate.”
The White House statement stood out as the most prominent U.S. political greeting during the Eid weekend, with no major senators, governors, or Cabinet officials issuing broadly reported messages tied to the holiday.
Internationally, some coverage of the White House message appeared alongside Eid greetings from foreign leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who conveyed Eid wishes in a call with Kuwait’s Crown Prince.
For millions of American Muslims, the Eid weekend brought celebrations marked by prayer, charity, family gatherings, and the close of a month of fasting.
